28 things I’ve learned in 28 years
I recently turned 28. I am officially in my late twenties. To celebrate making it another year, I decided to share some of the things I’ve learned in my 28 years.
It hasn’t been easy. There’s been a lot of self-doubt. A lot of insecurities. And a lot of mistakes. But thankfully, the older I’ve become, the more in myself I feel.
28 things I’ve learned in 28 years
1. Do not compare yourself to anyone’s life, relationship, or career. Focus on yours.
2. Tell the people you love that you love them, loud and often. You never know when might be the last time.
3. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
4. Do the thing that excites you. Why waste time wondering what if?
5. You are the greatest love of your life.
6. If you’re privileged enough to know you will never be homeless and never be without food, nothing is stopping you.
7. Change is scary, but you can do it.
8. The older you get, the more in yourself you’ll feel.
9. What other people think of you is none of your business.
10. Feel your emotions. Don’t push them down. It only makes everything worse
11. When things are too much, ask yourself, have I eaten enough? Drunk enough water? Been outside? Had a nap? Fix these first.
12. Listen to your gut.
13. There is no time wasted, only lessons learned.
14. True friends will never abandon you.
15. It’s ok to ask for help.
16. Frame every so-called disaster with these words “In 5 years, will this matter?”
17. You will fall in love again.
18. Perfection doesn’t exist. Your best is good enough.
19. Better to try and fail, than not try at all.
20. Time heals all wounds. Give Time time.
21. Everyone is going through life for the first time and making it up as they go along. Be kind.
22. No job is worth stressing or crying over.
23. “No.” is a full sentence.
24. External validation is never going to fulfil you.
25. If you wouldn’t say those things to your friend, why are you saying them to yourself?
26. Don’t wait until “you’ve got more money”, “you’re in that relationship”, or “you’ve saved enough”. Make the most of now.
27. Learning to love yourself is a lifelong journey.
28. Always make sure a friend knows where your vibrator is in case immediate extraction is required. *Stealth mode activated.
Your 20s are HARD. I’m nearing the end of mine and they’re still hard. But I hope this helps ease you through them a little.
If you’ve got any additions to this list, let me know in the comments. Or follow along for the ride.
